Industrial - Final Constructed Images

       For this project it was tough to get the original image to cooperate. At first the sky was how I wanted it but that caused the underside of the bridge to become almost black, and when I attempted to fix this by capturing another image with focus on the underside of the bridge, this caused to sky to be far too bright and over-exposed. After I had the two polar opposites I combined them in photoshop to get the best of both worlds. I stood my ground and refused to allow my image to become abstract so it was tough finding the possibilities to make six changes to my image. I changed the brick foundations to have the diamond plate texture, yet little enough opacity so that the outline of each brick row remains. I then completely changed the texture of the concrete blocks atop the foundation to a rusted and peeling paint image I captured from the railroad museum. The danger sign was difficult to work with as the original image was taken at an acute angle, so I worked with the skew and distortion to make it 2D. I then had the image of the crane from our "Industrial Places" assignment and pasted that onto the hill along with the objects in the background. In order to incorporate the colors from my mood board I painted a water tower in the background to a gunmetal grey color and gave the pipes running along the underside of the bridge a rusted/brown look.

       Funnily enough this image was not one of my original selections. I had first decided to go with my railroad close-up, however, it did not provide me many opportunities for editing. Because this image is filled with clutter such as trash, wooden pallets and even the dead bird, there are numerous editing options. I changed one of the green steel doors to the rusted blue railroad carriage and then used another carriage in place of a window. I put the private property sign on the garage door, however at first it was in focus and looked out of place so I used the blur tool to accompany the lack of focus for its surroundings. I then put the cluster of wooden pallets, storm drain lid and rim and plastic wrap towards the end of the alley. I had the similar issue of focus and again used to blur tool to even it out. Likewise with the sign on my prior image, the cluster was captured square in front so it appeared 2D. Because of the angles of the alleyway, I had to make the cluster appear as if it was in proportion to that of its surroundings. I then used a stainless steel dull grey to change the color of the drain pipe from white to its current and also gave the, originally bright blue, bag of Doritos a rustic tint.
